This morning added a vial of Biodigest. One thing I have started to notice after adding Biodigest or Bioptim to the tank is that the water becomes crystal clear and seems to retain this sparkling clarity for a few days. I’m hoping that, as the bacterias are more established, this is how the water will always look.
Later this afternoon, I decided that since I haven’t seen but a strand or two of bryopsis, and my NO3 seems to be gradually declining (10ppm, down from 20pmm at the start of this blog), today was the day for the first addition of Reef Booster. Unlike the components of BioClean, it’s recommended to shut off the skimmer and filters when dosing. I know I was just mentioning water clarity…

So, next time I add it, will definitely be after the lights go off. I’ll just shut down the skimmer and let the Reef Booster do its thing overnight. Instructions say to add 1 vial / week. As of now, I’ll plan on every 2 weeks, subject to change. I’ve read quite a few reports of diatoms / cyano outbreaks after use of Reef Booster. Obviously this is something to try and avoid, and will be interesting to see what happens over the next few days.

wow, i had no idea. i havent used the booster before…thanks for the heads up. any impact on no3 the next day?
i have heard it can be used instead of garlic or selco to tempt finicky eaters…may have to try it on the multifasciatus since he still doesnt care for prepared foods.

No impact after 24 hours. NO3 has definitely decreased since the start of bioptim / digest bacs, but I don’t see any change after last night. if you want to try a bit with the angel, let me know – i can spare a couple vials to try. Any luck with Rod’s food?

no luck with rod’s food either. he’s staying fat eating the algae i’ve been able to grow for him, but getting him on prepared is of course ideal.
i’d take a vial of booster and digest off of you. let me know how much$$ or if you want any frags for them. i’ve been dosing to help keep nutrients under control from the heavy feedings and think i am getting a mono culture going on.
btw, how’s the encrusting monti doing?

Monti is doing fine, a touch of growth on the edge that wasn’t cut, but nothing notable. The polyps are out a little more. I just took a wad of epoxy and stuck it to a rock so it will encrust vertically and around this little nub (hopefully), and now I wait. I just picked a spot and will leave it alone.
