  • LaMotte – 116ppm = 2.32 meq/l = 6.5 dkH
  • LaMotte – 112ppm = 2.24 meq/l = 6.2 dkH
  • LaMotte – 116ppm = 2.32 meq/l = 6.5 dkH
  • SeaChem Test 1 – 7 drops / 2 = meq/l = 3.5 meq/l = 9.8 dKH / 175ppm
  • SeaChem Test 2 – 6 drops / 2 = meq/l = 3.0 meq/l = 8.4 dKH / 150ppm
  • SeaChem Test 3 – 6 drops / 2 = meq/l = 3.0 meq/l = 8.4 dKH / 150ppm
  • SeaChem Test 4 – 6 drops / 2 = meq/l = 3.0 meq/l = 8.4 dKH / 150ppm
  • SeaChem Ref #1 – 12 drop / 2 = meq/l = 6.0 meq/l = 16.8 dKH / 300ppm
  • SeaChem Ref #2 – 12 drop / 2 = meq/l = 6.0 meq/l = 16.8 dKH / 300ppm
  • SeaChem Ref #3 – 11 drop / 2 = meq/l = 5.5 meq/l = 15.4 dKH / 275ppm
  • Please note, SeaChem reference is supposed to be 4 meq/L, or 8 drops…

The round with LaMotte is more in line with where my tank usually is, 6.5 – 7.5 dKH. I ran out of ELOS, and will be ordering one as soon as I post this, and I will try and pick up an API if I have time tomorrow. By default, I trust LaMotte more than SeaChem, but hard to say which may be off without a 3rd kit – though that SeaChem’s reference doesn’t even match what it should be, may be a good indicator of bunk. I don’t know how they want you to pull uniform samples with that dinky little straw…. I’ll try again when I have a 3rd kit.

It should also be noted, so it doesn’t seem like I’m totally hating on SeaChem’s kits…

    Magnesium Test Results

  • Salifert – 1380
  • SeaChem – 1375
  • ELOS ~ 1400 (only does 100ppm resolution unless you double).
